A study of the Thai blessing analysis of villagers in Ban Po community, Moo.5, Ban Pong, Ngao, Lampang

Abstract

The objectives of the study of the Thai blessing analysis of villagers in Ban Po community, Moo.5, Ban Pong, Ngao, Lampang were to analyze the pattern and content of the Thai blessing and to analyze beliefs about the Thai blessing of the villagers. Ban Po community, Moo.5, Ban Pong, Ngao, Lampang were used as data collection areas. The content of the Thai blessing was studied from oral history and document information in Lanna language. Data consisted of the Thai blessing used for individuals namely 1. Thai blessing used for prosperity 2. Thai blessing used for novice and 3. Thai blessing used for the bride and groom.

Data were collected and recorded by interviews and data were analyzed. The findings can be summarized as follows:

The pattern of Thai blessing of villagers in Ban Po community, Moo.5, Village No. 5, Ban Pong, Ngao, Lampang was divided into 2 types namely authorship forms and language usage.

There were three locutions and five steps of the overall structure of the Thai blessing that used for individuals of Ban Po community, Moo. 5 namely giving an introduction, explanation on the rice offering, invitation, chasing bad things, encouraging and inviting the protecting spirit to return the body.

The beliefs in the Thai blessing used for individuals could analyze into four beliefs from three locutions: beliefs on the protecting spirit, beliefs on the power, beliefs on the auspiciousness and inauspiciousness and beliefs on the auspicious time.
