Main Article Content
Abstract
Goblin, the novel, uses the curse as a story problem. The hero who is a dokkaebi or goblin has to find his bride to lift the curse and free from the solitude of immortal but when he found her, he denies to leave because of love. This article aims to analyze the effect of the curse on plot following the theory of Gustav Freitag. The theory consists of 7 steps; state of equilibrium, 2) inciting incident, 3) point of attack, 4) rising action, 5) climax, 6) resolution, and 7) new state of equilibrium. The result found that at the first step, God’s curse makes the hero become a goblin and has to find true love for lifting curse then the inciting incident the hero found the heroin but no confidence whether she is his bride. The point of attack is an unsuccessful curse lifting. The rising action is the hero and heroin have to meet each other until the love happened. For the climax, the hero lifts the curse successfully but makes the heroin loses her memory. The resolution is the heroin recalls the memory successfully and marries with the hero. The last step, the new state of equilibrium, the heroin died in an accident and reborn to meet the hero again. From the above result the curse is an important problem of story to push the characters express their acting from 1 to 5 steps. In the same time, love and oblivion are the important variables for the success of curse lifting of the main characters.
