The Development of a Chinese Language Textbooks for Grades 1-3 by Using Teachers’ Participatory Process in Schools, Chiang Rai Province

Abstract
This research aims to develop and test the effectiveness of the Chinese language textbooks for primary school students (grades 1-3) by using the teachers’ participatory process in 6 schools, Chiang Rai province, including 1) Pakodam Municipality School 1, 2) Phayamengrai Kindergarten School, 3) Anuban Maesai School (liberal arts), 4) Anuban Chiang Khong School, 5) Tessaban 1 Bankao School, and 6) Pukaeng (Intraratuppatham) School. The sampling group used to test the effectiveness of Chinese language learning at all three levels consisting of 93 students in grades 1-3 at Pakodam Municipality School 1 in Mae Lao District, Chiang Rai Province, divided into three grades: grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3, consisting of 30 students, 33 students, and 30 students, respectively.
The development of the textbook content was collaboratively analyzed and designed by the research team and Chinese teachers. The designed content was consistent with the content of the foreign language learning (Chinese) curriculum according to the Basic Core Curriculum, B.E. 2551, and the content was adapted from the vocabulary in the Youth of Chinese Test (YCT). The findings of textbook quality evaluation by the experts found that the development of Chinese language textbooks at all three levels in terms of content, language used, and textbook components were at a good level. The average score of Grade 1 Chinese textbook was 4.09; the Grade 2 textbook was 4.33; and the Grade 3 textbook was 4.49. The textbook's effectiveness results for grades 1-3 were based on the established criteria, which were E1/E2 = 81.04/83.67, E1/E2 (80/80) = 81.38/84.50, and E1/E2 (80/80) = 85.17/86.33, respectively.
