Abstract
This research aims to a) develop a Thai literature learning management model based on positive psychology by using the PERMA model and strength-based education and b) study effects of using the Thai literature learning management model based on positive psychology by using the PERMA model and strength-based education on students’ well-being. The population was secondary students at a boy school in Bangkok, and the participants were seventeen fourth grade students selected by purposeful sampling. This research was separated into two phases: developing the Thai literature learning management model and studying effects of using the model towards students’ well-being. The research tools for data collection were PERMA-Profiler and interview guide questions, while those for the experiment were eighteen lesson plans. The developed model’s quality was assessed by five experts. For the experiment, the quantitative data was analysed by Shapiro-Wilk test and dependent t-test and the qualitative one was analysed by thematic analysis, using five elements of the PERMA model for priori coding.
The finding of phase one was that the Thai language learning management model was developed by integrating strength-based education into the PERMA model. Teachers were also required to manage their practices and create an appropriate learning environment to support students’ PERMA elements. The findings of phase two were that students’ well-being after learning was significantly higher than that before learning at the .05 level and every PERMA element after learning was significantly higher than that before learning at the .05 level. The reason was that the students learnt about well-being and how to develop it through analysing Thai literature studied in schools in relation to their own experiences, making them better understand the concept and its real-life applications.
