DEVELOPMENT OF A LOCALLY-BASED CURRICULUM THROUGH ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROCESS ON THE CONSERVATION OF PASAK RIVER IN PHRA NAKHON SRI AYUTTHAYA PROVINCE
The objective of this research was to develop a locally-based curriculum on the conservation of Pasak River for lower-secondary school students. The methodology used was participatory action research. The research process involved three stages: first, the relevant documents, research findings, and basic information of the local communities were studied. Then 328 lower-secondary school students from five participating schools were given questionnaires to obtain their opinions about the instruction offered within the current local curriculum. A fourty-eight-member curriculum development board was established, comprised of representatives from the education authorities, the local people, and the local organizations. Subsequently, a series of community forums was organized to determine the visions, mission, aims and structure of the curriculum. A team of eighteen experts who had assessed the curriculum found that its level of suitability was very high, with the index of item objective congruence (IOC) levels between 0.94 and 1. It can be surmised from the research findings that the developed local curriculum on how to help conserve the River was appropriate and effective teaching and learning tool.
