DEVELOPMENT OF CHINESE LANGUAGE SKILLS IN PRATHOMSUKSA 5 STUDENTS PHROMMIT PITTAYA SCHOOL THROUGH ROLE-PLAYING ACTIVITIES

Abstract

This research aimed to (1) develop learning activities using Role Play to enhance the Chinese speaking skills of Grade 5 students at Prommit Pittaya School in accordance with the 80/80 efficiency criterion, (2) compare students’ Chinese speaking achievement before and after participating in the activities, and (3) examine students’ satisfaction with the Role Play–based learning approach. The sample consisted of 40 Grade 5/1 students in the second semester of the 2025 academic year, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments included seven Role Play–based lesson plans, a Chinese speaking skills test, and a student satisfaction questionnaire, with the efficiency criterion set at E1/E2 = 80/80.

The findings revealed that the Role Play–based learning activities met the required efficiency level, achieving an E₁/E₂ value of 82.75/83.12. Students’ post-learning Chinese speaking achievement was significantly higher than their pre-learning scores at the .05 level. In addition, students reported high satisfaction with the Role Play–based learning approach (mean = 4.44, S.D. = 0.67). These results indicate that Role Play activities effectively promote Chinese speaking skills and foster positive attitudes toward learning Chinese.
