PEOPLE’S DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS OF POLITICAL LEADERS IN MUANGKAEW SUB- DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY, MAE RIM DISTRICT, CHIANG MAI PROVINCE

Abstract
The objectives of this thematic paper were aimed 1) to study the expected qualifications of political leaders according to the attitude of the people in Muang Kaew Sub-district, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, 2) to study suggestions regarding the problems and solutions to the expected qualifications of political leaders according to the attitude of the people in Muang Kaew Sub-district, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province. The research sampling subjects were those who had the suffrage, aged 18 and above, residing in Muang Kaew Sub-district, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, totally 369. The study tools were questionnaires. Statistics for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Results of the data analysis were presented in descriptive tables. Results of the research were as follows: 1. The people’s opinion towards the expected qualifications of political leaders according to the attitude of the people in Muang Kaew Sub-district, Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province was overall rated at a high level in the four aspects. When considering by aspect, it was found that, ranking respectively from high to low, the competency was rated at a high level, followed by the moral and ethical virtue, intelligence and personality, all of which were rated at a high level, respectively. 2. The problems and solutions 2.1 With regard to the solutions, the local leader should develop the qualification on intelligence, personality, ability and moral and ethical virtue to be consistent with the role of good leadership, including the enhancement of their own potentials worthy of recognition of the locals and ensuring them of confidence. 2.2 The local leader should be promoted to make more personal appearance at the community’s presence; the people should be promoted to express their new ideas and always follow up current situations; and the process of performance monitoring should be popped up.
