THE VALUE OF STAGE PLAYS “PANJI MISARANG” AND “RUNGFA DOI SING” COMPOSED BY HER SERENE HIGHNESS PRINCESS CHALERMKHETR MAGALA

Abstract

The objective of this research article is to study the values of the stage plays “Panji Misarang” and “Rungfa Doi Sing” composed by Her Serene Highness Princess Chalermkhetr magala. This study is documentary research. The data was collected from the plays “Panji Misarang” and “Rung Fa Doi Sing” composed by Her Serene Highness Princess Chalermkhetr magala, which were published in a book commemorating the royal cremation ceremony in 1957. During her lifetime, she was a talented composer who composed two plays, namely Panji Misarang, adapted from the book translated from the original Indonesian legend and Rungfa Doi Sing, adapted from the novel of the same name. The results of the study showed that the plays have held many aspects of values as follows. First, the aspect of performance literature value, the plays have fast continuity. In other words, they emphasize the presentation of the dialogue and narration and have little dance. The continuity of the plays mainly relies on the use of poems and prose. Second, the aspect of emotional value, various elements in the plays were put together in harmony such as the plots, the story lines, the characters, the scenes, and the use of language. Third, the aspect of intellectual development value, this aspect was clearly inserted in both plays. Particularly, the core of the story is related to love, greed, anger, and delusion. In conclusion, it is important for plays to reflect such values and to be used as a tool to promote learning and creativity of individuals and society as a whole.
