THE DEVELOPMENT OF CORE COMPETENCY ENHANCEMENT TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR ACADEMIC SUPPORT STAFFS IN NORTH-EASTERN RAJABHAT UNIVERSITY GROUP
The objectives of this research were to (1) assess the needs for core competency of the support staff, (2) develop the core competency training course for the support staff and (3) investigate the results of using the core competency training course for the support staff working at 11 Rajabhat Universities in the Northeast Group. The study was divided into 3 steps as follows;
Step 1: Assessing the needs for core competency of the support staff using questionnaire with 385 samples from 11 Rajabhat Universities. The needs for strengthening core competency were: (1) Achievement motivation, (2) Expertise, (3) Service mind, (4) Teamwork and (5) Integrity, respectively.
Step 2: Developing the training course to enhance core competency of the support staff of Rajabhat Universities, consisting of 4 units: (1) Roles, duties and responsibilities of support staff, (2) Professional support staff, (3) Effective work development, and (4) Problem solving and decision making. The quality of the course was evaluated by 5 experts.
Step 3: Investigating the effects of the training course to enhance core competency of the support staff by piloting with 40 support staff members for 2 days. One group pre- and posttest design was employed. It was found that the mean scores of the 5 aspects of core competency after attending the training were higher than those of before attending the training with the statistical significance level of .05 and the participants were satisfied with the training at the highest level.
