Abstract

The objective of this research aimed to study the views of university supervisors and school advisors related to science communication skills of Rajabhat university’s pre-service science teachers. This research employed qualitative research method. The key informants were 4 university supervisors and 6 school advisors who had at least 2 years experiences in teaching science and supervision of pre-service science teachers using purposive sampling. The data were collected by an in-depth interview using a semi-structured interview that the index of consistency was 0.67-1.00 and the suitability mean of 4.65 was at the highest level. Data collection used both group and individual interviews based on the phenomenological concept of Heidegger. The data were analyzed based on the process of Diekelman and Allen. The results revealed that there are 2 views of university supervisors and school advisors related to science communication skills. In terms of oral communication skill, they were not able to clearly explain the relevant scientific concepts. They also were not able to connect the concepts with the empirical evidence to draw conclusions with scientific reasonings. Moreover, they were not incapable to accurately explain natural phenomenon. For written communication skill, they were not able to use their existing knowledges to accurately explain and conclude scientific concepts along with lack of interpreting data from scientific evidence.
