Abstract

Current learners should processes learning competencies that aligned with the characteristics of 21st century learners. Therefore, a competency-based curriculum aimed at developing students' necessary characteristics for future life is paramount. The research objectives were to: 1) study the outcomes of implementing the Sandbox curriculum as a foundation for developing student learning competencies in the context of learning management, 2) compare learning competencies of students between before and after, and 3) compare before and after learning achievement of students using Work-Based Learning (WBL) with 70% of criterion. The research sample consisted of 7 schools, 48 teachers, and 425 students selected using a voluntary selection. Research tools included a scoring rubric of curriculum development model in the Education Sandbox with an appropriate value of 4.16-4.58, and a scoring rubric of learning competencies with an appropriate value of 5.00. Teaching was carried out according to a learning management plan, and the students’ achievement and competencies were evaluated. Statistical analysis of the data involved calculating the mean, standard deviation, and performing a dependent t-test and t-test for one sample. The findings indicated that: 1) the learning competencies was higher than before learning, 2) the learning achievement was significantly higher than before learning at 0.05 level, and 3) the learning achievement was significantly higher than before learning with 70% of criterion at 0.05 level. As a result, students have higher learning achievement and learning competencies.
