Abstract

This research aimed to study the types of English communication strategies used by employees of a Bangkok company. The sample consisted of 12 employees selected by purposive sampling. The research tools were questionnaires and non-participant observations. Statistics which were used to analyze quantitative data were mean, percentage, and standard deviation. The qualitative analysis was based on the conceptual and theoretical content analysis of Nakatani (2006). The first and second communication strategies most employees frequently used were “Achievement or Compensatory” and “Non-Linguistic” whereas the “Avoidance or Compensatory” was the least frequently used. Additionally, sub-strategies such as short and simple words, repetition, and confirmation were employed to be used in communication strategy as well.
