Factors Affecting of Success in Conducting Thesis and Independent Study of Graduate Students in Master of Education (Educational Administration), Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University

Abstract

     The research on factors affecting success in conducting thesis and independent study of graduate students in the Master of Education (Educational Administration), Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University was a correlational descriptive research. The objective of this research were to study: 1) the factors related the success in conducting graduate student’s thesis and independent study, 2) the success in conducting graduate students’ thesis and independent study, 3) the relationship between the factors related and the success in conducting graduate students’ thesis and independent study, and 4) the factors affecting of success in conducting graduate students’ thesis and independent study. The population was 203 graduate students’ theses and independent studies. The sample group consisted of 120 graduate students, and random sampling. The instrument was a questionnaire on factors related to success in doing a thesis and independent study, including students, advisors, and educational institutions, with reliability values ​​of .84, .95, and .95, respectively. The success in thesis and independent study had a reliability value of .92. The statistics used in data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression analysis.


     Research findings were as follows: 1) Student, advisor, and institutional factors are highly related to the overall success of thesis and independent study, 2) The success in thesis and independent study was at a high level. 3) All three factors had a positive relationship with success at a fairly high level (r = 648), and 4) All three factors influenced the success of students' thesis and independent study with a statistically significant predictive power of 51.90% at the .01 level.
