The Potential of ecotourism management: A Case study of Ban Tub Neung, Tumbon Kamphun, Amphoe Suksamran, Changwat Ranong

Abstract

This research aims to study: 1) the potential of natural tourist attractions for ecotourism development, 2) the community's capacity to support ecotourism, and 3) guidelines for developing ecotourism. This qualitative research was conducted in a specific area of Ban Thap Nuea, Moo 2, Tambon Kamphun, Amphoe Suk Samran, and Changwat Ranong. The key informants comprised 40 participants, including community leaders, residents, government representatives, and tourists. Data were collected through interviews, focus group discussions, observation, and participatory workshops, and analyzed using inductive reasoning.
     The research findings indicate the following:1)Tourism resource potential: 1.1) The mangrove ecosystem has significant potential for development as a tourist destination. 1.2) Other local attractions that can be integrated with tourism activities demonstrate moderate potential. 2) Community Potential: 2.1) The concept and the need for tourism development have high potential. 2.2) The way of life has high potential. 2.3) Souvenirs and local products have moderate potential. 2.4) Community storytelling. 2.5) Conservation activities, 2.6) accommodation and facilities, and 2.7) The community organizational structure, and all of the above have moderate potential. 3) Guidelines for ecotourism development include: 3.1) Creating community participation 3.2) preparing the community for tourism-related activities, 3.3) designing tourism programs that create linkages with nearby attractions, 3.4) establishing clear agreements for tourism management, and 3.5) developing effective promotional and marketing materials. Relevant agencies should prioritize tourism development in conjunction with the conservation of natural resources and the environment, while providing ongoing support to the local community.
