Information Perception Development to Learning Encouragement for Children with Special Needs of Nakhon Si Thammarat Primary Educational Service Area Office 2
This research is a survey research. Which research aims to 1) study the special needs children’s behaviors of perception of information in schools under Nakhon Si Thammarat Primary Educational Service Area Office 2 and 2) find out problems of the special needs children’s behaviors of perception of information in inclusive education classrooms 3. and problems in imposing a guideline to solve and accommodate the children’s problems. 4. The guideline was subsequently developed into improve the special needs children’s perception of information.
The key informants from the sample groups were afterwards categorized into four groups; classroom teachers and personnel involving teaching matters, parents of special needs children, teachers from mainstay schools, and supervisors, the total number of 177 people. This research using a random system, the sample groups were classified due to the school sizes, i.e. the numbers of students and the estimated proportion. The instruction manuals for special needs children from the Office of the National Primary Education were used as guidelines to design questionnaires and interviews to use as research instruments in this study. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation. Including the use of content analysis
The findings reveal as follow:
1. The special needs children’s behaviors of perception of information in schools under Nakhon Si Thammarat Primary Educational Service Area Office 2 at low level were the groups of the children who have vision impairment, hearing impairment, mild cognitive impairment, learning disability cognitive impairment, autistic spectrum disorder, and multiple disabilities. The special needs children’s behaviors of perception of information at the moderate level went to groups of children having physical impairments include speech and language impairment and behavioral impairment.
2. The survey indicated issues that affect the special needs children’s perception of information while learning with normal children in inclusive education environment were the teachers’ incompetence in preparing projects and instructional planning for individual special needs children, the inadequate understanding of the parents about the children’s problems apart from their impairments.
3. To impose a guideline to solve the special needs children’s problems of the perception of information, the findings indicated that the schools have prepared various types of projects to accommodate educational policy for special needs children, particularly the improvement of teachers’ competence in inclusive education. In addition, school administrators should focus on inclusive education by allocating additional budget, explicate the behaviors of special needs children and inclusive education to the parents as well as arrange activities that facilitate the improvement of children’s perception of information.
4. To develop the special needs children’s perception of information, the findings signify that the schools should arrange appropriate inclusive education activities that suit specific needs of each type of the special needs children’s impairment and disabilities alongside with activities in normal class. Moreover, the schools should arrange special activities that accommodate children’s perception of information continuously.
