Social Work in a VUCA World: Challenges in Teaching and Learning, Practical Training, and Creating Ethics Awareness in Working with Clients in Thailand

Abstract

This academic article aims to explain and analyze the synthesis of social welfare work with various challenges, divided into four parts: challenges in education and management of teaching and learning, challenges in practical training, challenges in promoting ethical awareness in working with service users, and the conclusion. The study shows that Thai society currently faces a VUCA World, or a society characterized by volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous changes, posing challenges in education teaching management, the need of knowledge to stay current is essential, focusing on learner-centered approaches, promoting learning skills in the 21^st century, and using technology as a supportive tool in educational administration. There are also challenges in practical training, such as adapting to changes and organizing collaborative learning processes to enhance the learning and skills of learners. Furthermore, building ethical awareness in working with service users requires managing conflicts and expanding the scope of ethics broadly, as well as prioritizing compliance with PDPA laws. However, these challenges should not be addressed as immediate problem-solving tasks, but should be viewed as opportunities for sustainable development in social welfare quality.
