A Study of the Social Return on Investment of 21st Century Skill Development Project for secondary School Students in Northern Thailand

Abstract

This research aims to develop an outcomes mapping based on the concept of Social Return on Investment for 21st century skill development project targeting secondary school students, and to analyze the economic and social returns of these project. The sample includes four groups: (1) five project funders, (2) eleven project implementers, (3) student participants divided into three subgroups-337 secondary students from upper northern provinces participating in self-directed learning via MOOC, 144 students undergoing knowledge enhancement training, and 345 students involved in educational product and innovation competitions, and (4) 69 basic education teachers. Data for groups 1 and 2 were collected from the entire population, while data for groups 3 and 4 were collected based on sample sizes determined using a G*power program with a 95% confidence level, lower error level and high power of testing. This study employs a qualitative research method following the SROI framework and Theory of change. This study conducts data by using In-depth Interview and semi-structure interview form. The findings reveal that the economic and social return on investment of the project is 1.063, implies that 1 Baht invested in the program benefits educational institutions, schools, teachers, students, parents, and other stakeholders, creating an additional financial value of 1.063 Baht.
