Abstract

This article attempts to propose the concept of Buddhist integration which is the Threefold Leaning (Sikkhāttaya)--comprising of morality (Sīla), concentration (Samā dhi), and wisdom (Paññā)—for the western principle of human resource development application. Religion is one of the forces with power of deep knowledge and has influence on family life, the community, the economy, and politics. Religious belief and value bring about human actions. Buddhism, therefore, is an important characteristic of life while social dimension is an important part of religion and has influence on human way of life similar to other religions. Dhamma basically emphasizes human development. If Buddhist teachings are integrated with modern science and used as guidelines for human resource development, they could be in harmony with existing way of life, belief, and culture. They could also help ameliorating ethical problems in work which is a
serious problem in governmental agencies especially corruptions by both government officials and politicians alike. Human resource development with Dhamma to uplift ethical levels is very important. Dhamma, a natural law, not only tells humans which is good and which is evil, but also provides a guideline to wellbeing. Therefore, Dhamma application both at the mundane (Lokiya) level and at the transcendental (Lokuttara) level in human resource development should be useful to a person as an individual and as the organizational and national resource as well. A person, hence, will be smart, good, and happy.
