The Red Barrel Incident and Its Effects on Land Titling in Phatthalung

Abstract

This article examines the effect of the Red Barrel Incident on land titling process in Phatthalung province. The study finds that the effects of this incident made the Thai government adjust and change its policy on Communist prevention and suppression to the one that focused more on economic development and poverty reduction. Furthermore, land titling was an important part of this new policy. It also corresponded with national development strategy along the lines of Neo-Liberalism.
