Main Article Content
Abstract
The objectives of this study is to find out the causes of the unwanted pregnancy, decision making in the continuation with the pregnancy and life of the seven women with unwanted pregnancy who decide to keep the babies. The outcome of study reveals that the majority of women with unwanted pregnancy who wished to continue their pregnancy conceived during the time of their studies. All intended to deliver babies eventually and take good care of them. The cause of unwanted pregnancy for the women are (1) being alone together with their boyfriends in a rented house or apartment far away from the watchful eyes of their families, (2) incorrect use of pregnancy preventive devices or unaware of the need to avoid pregnancy. As for the reasons in their decision to have babies from unwanted pregnancy, some decided on their own, some made joint decisions with their male partners whilst some sought guidance and assistance from family members. On their life after deciding to keep the babies from unwanted pregnancy, some had antenatal care whilst some looked after themselves and their unborn child. Once the babies had been delivered, all family members helped look after the babies and assisted with related expenses. Some continued with their studies until graduation whilst some became entrepreneurs to earn income for family expenses. As for the solutions, it should be addressed at the root cause of the problem leading to unwanted pregnancy, for example, avoid being together between male and female when nobody can see them and to use pregnancy preventive devices properly and correctly. Parents should closely monitor their children who need to stay in apartments or dormitories.
