“ILLEGAL LOTTERY” IN ELDERS THE SITUATION SEVERITY AND THE WAY TO DECREASE NEGATIVE IMPACTS

Abstract

This research aims to study the situation, and guidelines for reducing the negative impacts of illegal lottery in the elderly. from the key informants including gambling experts, community leaders, and the elderly in the total number of 16 persons by purposive selection and snowball sampling and found that: 1) The illegal lottery situation of the elderly is it will be
a consistently long-term action because the elderly has free time, no income, or low income,
as well as relying on their children and state welfare. Therefore, the illegal lottery becomes
the hope to increase their incomes. The lottery situation depends on stimulating factors,
such as presenting news about the lottery through the mass media, arranging the outstanding numbers, online gambling, and buy-first, pay-later system, which can cause debt, mental health, and strain, as well as can affect the relationship in the family. and 2) The guidelines for reducing the impacts of lottery in elderly include 2.1) families should use the communication in order to create the understanding rationally, 2.2) mechanism for educating on media literacy issues should be created, 2.3) consulting systems for gambling problems in communities should be created, 2.4) the transformation through the process of enhancing communities in the form of learning activities should be established, 2.5) a centre organization should be established in order to supervise, examine, quicken, and assess working outcomes as well as to coordinate with other sectors, 2.6) government lottery should be managed to meet the standard and to solve the problem of overpriced lottery, together with creating measures to control illegal lottery, and 2.7) the campaign to stop gambling should be made, together with providing knowledge in other issues such as media literacy and money management.
