THE STUDY OF URBAN ECOLOGICAL FOR AGING SOCIETY THROUGH PROMOTING PARTICIPATORY PROCESS
Keywords:
Participation, Urban Ecological Development, Aging SocietyAbstract
This study aims to propose an urban ecological development planning for the aging society through the design thinking process. By applying this tool to carry out workshop activities through the participation process among elderly people (60 years and over) who live in Ban Phaeo District, Samut Sakhon Province. With the sampling of 240 persons, the content analysis technique was applied to analyze ecological system for the elderly society at all 3 levels which are individual level, home level and community level. The results of the study demonstrated that; 1) individual level: most of elderly group have an inappropriate behavior towards good health such as quality of sleeping, irregular daily dietary, daily behaviors associated with less physical. 2) home level: there is a risk of elderly living due to lack of facilities that help facilitating the activities of aged group towards the safe living to reduce the daily risk. 3) environment level: the ability to access basic social services is related to the context of surrounding area which should turn into a lively neighborhood. The finding can lead policy suggestions for the urban development in term of physical forms for elderly society by creating coordination mechanisms at the area level while promoting innovation in elderly caring by promoting the use of modern technology. Furthermore, the consideration for an appropriate public space must be recommended to promote the activities of daily life (necessary activities) as well as creative and social relations, and improvement activities for elderly.
