Abstract

A study on “Nang Bak Tue Lam Sing” Shadow Show, an integration of cultural folk performance had two objectives: 1) to investigate the forms of Nang Bak Tue Lam Sing as performed at present; and 2) to investigate the integration of cultural folk performances called Nang Bak Tue shadow show and Lam Sing folk dance. The results were found that Nang Bak Tue shadow show at present was changed its form from the past by applying a traditional style with Mor Lam Sing folk dance in an alternate way. A traditional style includes teacher worshipping, a performing story, story proceeding, puppet show, narration and dialogue. The musical instruments used in the performance include the xylophone, Phin (mandolin), Kaen (E-sarn mouth organ) Klong Toom (tambourine) and the keyboard performed by blending with Mor Lum Sing western music which is played alternately one after another. As a cultural integration of folk performance, Nang Bak Tue, Mor Lam Sing, Thai music, and local E-sarn music are played as one set of performance. They are played one after another and are sometime aptly played together. However, an important objective of the cultural integration is to be more entertaining for the audience but retaining a traditional form of performance which is a unique identity of Nang Bak Tue (Shadow Show).
