The Roles of Abbots in Sangha Government Region 14 to Solve Apayamukha Problem

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to study awareness of the truth of social suffering of the abbots in Sangha Government Region 14, to study the roles of the abbots to solve Apayamukha problem, to compare the roles of the abbots with different age, rainy season (Vassa), general education and period of positions and to study the problems and solutions concerning the roles of the abbots to solve Apayamukha problem. This was mixed methods research. The sample groups were 299 abbots and 16 abbots were interviewed in depth. Tools using to collect data were questionnaires and in-depth interviews with the structure. The results of research were found that the abbots were aware of the Buddha’s teaching in sending the disciple to propagate religion in the first time at the highest level 58.50%., had the roles to solve Apayamukha problem in the whole view of 3 aspects and each aspects : the aspect of Dhamma preaching of, the aspect of civil society and the aspect of the treatment of drug addiction in nearly every time. The results of hypothesis were found that the abbots with different rainy season (Vassa) and general education had no difference of the roles to solve Apayamukha problem in the whole view of 3 aspects. But who having different age and period of positions had difference of the roles to solve Apayamukha problem in the whole view of 3 aspects with statistic significant average .05. The abbots had suggested problems and solutions : other agencies of both government and private agencies had lack of cooperation. They should seriously promote and support communities’ cooperation : both of government and private agencies. The results of data analyzing from in-depth interviews were found that the abbots had opinion that the states of minds of people who had lack of training to be patient, so, they were weak in minds. That easily caused them to relate Apayamukha problem. Officers being responsible for the suppression did not work properly and had law enforcement in the burning hay. Monks should talk about the harm of Apayamukha when people attended the funeral, religious ceremony and school also. Villages, temples and schools should be serious to cooperate, they should think Apayamukha problem was national issue, it was not a problem of this party or other one.
