Related Factors of Low Birth Weight Infant

Abstract
Birth weight of infant likely to be several factors involved. The study aimed at examining related factors of low birth weight infant. The target samples were pregnant women delivery at Chumphon Keth Udomsakdi Hospital, Chumphon Province. A sample size of 490 cases data were selected by recorded delivery. Data analysis and Statistically analysed by Chi-Square test used to determine the level of significance the reliability of not less than 95 percent. It was found that inefficiency ante natal care 45.1 percentage, preterm labour 27.8 percentage, previous history of pregnancy loss or abortion 15.3 percentage, previous history of low birth weight infant 3.9 percentage, previous history of preterm labour 2.0 percentage, maternal disease 7.1 percentage, hypertension 6.1 percentage and maternal anemia 18.4 percentage. It can be concluded that independent variables which significantly correlated to birth weight infant were Inefficiency ante natal care, preterm labour, previous history of pregnancy loss or abortion, previous history of low birth weight infant, previous history of preterm labour , maternal disease , hypertension and maternal anemia (p value = 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001, 0.001 and 0.036 respectively). This study can be concluded that maternal factors affecting birth weight infant . Further study should emphasised on knowledge, attitude and self-care behavior of mother’s low BirthWeight Infant.
