A Study of Phenotypic Traits using for the Genetic Selection and Conservation of Swamp Buffalo with Knowledge Local Wisdom of Farmers in Si Songkhram District, Nakhon Phanom Province

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study phenotypic traits using for the genetic selection and conservation of swamp buffalo with knowledge local wisdom of farmers in Si Songkhram district, Nakhon Phanom province from 75 farmers using survey research by deep interview. The data was analyzed by analytic induction-deductive, typological analysis and constant comparison with descriptive form. The results revealed that farmer’s attitudes produced buffalos for upgrade genetic breeds in their group to big shape and beautiful followed by ideal type of Thailand buffalo. The phenotypic traits for considering with knowledge local wisdom of buffalo farmers are 13 characteristics such as 1) long and high shape 2) strong legs and fit with body 3) 2-3 V-Chevron 4) fresh face and eyes 5) 2 eyes spot 6) 2 white color cheek 7) 4 white color feet 8) big, open and round end-point horns 9) big testis, equivalent and not twist 10) full, long and big tail 11) penis close to abdominal surface 12) good position of morale and 13) no bad luck.
