The Relationship Among Psychosocial Factors, Perception Factors and Social Support Factors Among the Depression of the Elderly in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province

Abstract
Depression in the elderly was stealing a major problem and the factor has not been identified at present to find factors that are associated with depression of the elderly. This study aimed to examine the relationship among psychosocial factors, perception factors and social support factors among the depression of the elderly. Nakhon Si Thammarat province. The sample group was the elderly who are entitled to receive the elderly living allowance in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, 240 persons. The data were collected by questionnaires and analyzed with the R program to identify means, standard deviation, and pearson correlation coefficients. The results revealed that the elderly in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province suffered from depression at a moderate level. Lack of self-esteem, dissatisfaction in life, and perception of lack of family support had a positive correlation with the depression among the elderly at the .001 level of statistical significance. Lack of spiritual well-being, perception of inability to perform a routine, perception of inability to take care of health, negative attitude toward death, and lack of information support had a positive correlation with the depression among the elderly at the .01 level of statistical significance. In addition, lack of support for medical services, lack of support for educational services, and lack of income and work support had a positive correlation with the depression among the elderly at the .05 level of statistical significance. The results of the research explained that psychosocial factors Cognitive factor and social support factors were associated with depression among the elderly. The results of this research Departments of the Ministry of Public Health and agencies related to the elderly. It can be used to better consider approaches or measures to prevent depression in the elderly.
