Guidelines for Waste Management with Community Participation of Chun Subdistrict Municipality, Chun District, Phayao Province

Abstract

This research aims to 1) study the current problems in waste management in Jun Subdistrict Municipality  2) propose community-based participatory waste management approaches. The study employed a qualitative research methodology, collecting data through in-depth interviews with 12 key informants, including municipal executives, public health officials, community leaders, and general residents. Additional data were gathered from documents, government policies, and related research. A semi-structured interview form was used as the research instrument. Data were analyzed using content and inductive analysis methods.

The research findings revealed that:

1) the waste management system in Jun Subdistrict, Jun District, Phayao Province, faces several major challenges, including insufficient waste separation practices, a lack of public understanding regarding proper waste management, and limitations in human resources and budget for consistent waste collection. Moreover, most communities have yet to participate systematically in the waste management process. Based on data analysis and community participation, the researcher

2) proposed community-based participatory waste management strategies, which include: promoting waste separation activities at the household level, creating incentive systems through rewards or benefit-sharing for participants, establishing community waste banks, providing training on waste reduction, separation, and recycling, and fostering cooperation among the municipality, community leaders, and the public. These approaches aim to enhance sustainable and effective waste management.
