Public Participation in Waste Management and Segregation in Bangkok

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study the level of public knowledge and understanding, as well as public participation in waste management and segregation in Bangkok; 2) compare public participation in waste management and segregation classified by personal factors; and 3) examine the relationship between knowledge and understanding and public participation in waste management and segregation in Bangkok. Data were collected from a sample group of 400 people living in Bangkok using a questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean, and standard deviation, and inferential statistics, including t-test, One-Way ANOVA, and Chi-Square Test, with a statistical significance level of .05.

          The research results revealed that

          1) the level of knowledge and understanding of waste management and segregation in Bangkok was moderate, and the overall level of public participation in waste management and segregation was also moderate.

          2) when comparing public participation by personal factors, it was found that age significantly influenced public participation in waste management and segregation, while gender, education level, occupation, and average monthly income did not show significant differences.

          3) knowledge and understanding of waste management and segregation were significantly correlated with public participation in waste management and segregation in Bangkok at the .05 level.
