Abstract

This research project’s three aims were: 1) to study the current stages and desirable conditions of collective leadership; 2) to develop a program to strengthen collective leadership in Thai primary school administrators; 3) to analyze the effects of the established program in strengthening collective leadership. There were three phases involved in the study. Phase 1 was designed to study the current stages and desirable conditions. Phase 2 developed a program to strengthen collective leadership. A semi-structured interview was employed in the data collection and was designed in the form of an interactive interview. Phase 3 applied the program into practice. Its aim was to improve the collective leadership among Thai primary school administrators. In this phase, there were 10 participants.

The main findings were: 1) The results of the analysis of current states and desirable conditions of collective leadership were positive. 2) The collective leadership program comprised five models which were: (1) shared vision, (2) transformation, (3) collective decision making, (4) team building, and (5) leader exchange. There were four developmental processes. 3) After implementing the program, (1) the results show that Thai primary school administrators had positively improved, as evident in their higher leadership scores after completing the program. That is, their development had significantly improved and all participants successfully reached a standard of more than 70 percent, and (2) the evaluations, including satisfaction towards the use of the program completed by the directors of the primary schools, were found to be very high.
