Abstract

The research described in this article was aimed at studying the strategy of using verbs to be composed in creating the representation of a collection of 85 songs with content about teachers from 1957-2018, based on the concepts of representation and verbs. The analysis of using verbs to define the actions made by teachers and others revealed that the representation of the teacher could be classified into two categories. The first category is the use of verbs defining the actions made by teachers, including seven representations of teachers: Having self-determination and intention to teach responsibly and to educate students, having unity towards participating in working together with other teachers, having good relationships with students, working with tiredness and difficulty, being patient and expressing sorrow and sadness. The second category is the use of verbs defining actions made by others including three representations of the teacher: Being respected and honored, being loved and missed by students and being negatively approached by students. The study of the representations of teachers reflected the importance and influence of songs composed to create the representations of the teacher in the social context of Thailand. Finally, with the roles and responsibilities of teachers defined in the songs, including virtues, professional ethics, ideology and self-determination in the teaching profession, teachers were respected and praised by people in Thailand’s social context.
