Abstract

Qualitative research has become an important part in conducting research. Thus, there are many researchers who are shifting their paradigm. However, data used are much more different from those used in quantitative research. Mostly, data were collected by questionnaires while qualitative data come from various means. Since, the amount of data are variety depending on the size and type of each research project. The novice researchers faced with difficulty in managing their qualitative data. Some of the data were lost or misplaced or could not be retrieved for use when they were required, which are normally in large amount ranging from 100-1,000 pages or even more of transcriptions could cause more damage to the research project in many ways including low quality of research results. In practice, it could be considered that data management is one of most important factors contributing to the success of effective qualitative project. However, it was noticed that literature in managing the effectiveness of qualitative data that is difficult to find. In many cases, it is presented as a small part in research textbooks. In addition, this part of qualitative research is totally disappeared in many qualitative research reports or articles. This paper aims to review and present a process and procedures of qualitative data management for those novice qualitative researchers or those to find additional sources of information on qualitative data for their qualitative research projects.
