CONCEPTS, INDICATORS, COMPONENTS, EXPERIENCES AND INTEGRATION OF FIVE PRECEPTS IN THE PROJECT OF FIVE PRECEPTS VILLAGES

Abstract

This research aimed 1) to study of concept, indicators, and components of the Project of Five Precepts Villages, 2) to analyze the learned lessons and to integrate the principles of five precepts to improve standard of lives of Thais in local society. It was the qualitative research by selecting the target groups as representative of all data with purposive samplings in four regions of Thailand. 20 participants in one province in each region were selected. The research instrument was structured interviews. Data collection was interviews, observing, and focus group discussion of key components. Data analysis was summarized by theory, data classification, grouping, and index, which were operated with comparison of all data from observation. It was found that concept came from problems awareness in Thai society and having attempts to be solved with applying the principles and methods of five precepts in Buddhism. In its indicators, they consist of quantitative and qualitative indicators and its components, they consisted of working committee in the level of country, provinces, districts, sub-districts, and villages. Learning the lessons in each place are cooperation between temples, people and organizations of government, these are factors of project’s success. Integration can be combined in both of individuals, organizations, and societies by connecting activities in the past into their processes and using the main institutes. Subsequently, this project should activate to be as Nation agenda to support awareness and determinations of all Thai peoples to find the resolution problems and develop humanity of all in Thai society.
