PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING PROCESS FOR EMPOWERMENT PROMOTION OF COMMUNITY IN THE EASTERN

Abstract

    The objectives of this study were to study: 1) processes, 2) success factors, and 3) problems and obstacles in Problem-Based Learning (PBL) for empowerment promotion of the best practice communities in the Eastern Thailand. Qualitative research and participation action research were used by the explanation of 3 key informants with purposive consisting of 21 community leaders, 14 philosophers, and 70 representatives. An unstructured interview form that was considered by experts was used which contained the focus group and in-depth interviews. The qualitative data analysis was conducted by using with typological analysis and comparison analysis.            The results revealed that the 7 best practice communities that use PBL processes for empowerment promotion of communities are: 1) recognizing the importance of common problems, 2) finding the cause of the problems, 3) formulating the problem solutions, and 4) providing community’s strength. The success factors in using PBL for empowerment promotion of communities are similar, such as the community leaders are sacrifice and dedicated, community members are unity and government agencies support etc. In addition, the problems and obstacles in the PBL process for empowerment promotion of community are different. There are the problems and obstacles in operation such as the unmanageable group because there are too many members, and the shortage of youth and new generations to be a part of activities etc., also there are the problems and obstacles in management,  such as a lack of preparedness for leader changing etc.
