The Awareness towards Waste Water Problem Owing to Aquaculture of Farmers at Nong Teen Kok Subdistrict, Ban Pho District, Chachoengsao Province

Abstract

The research aimed to study 1) the condition of aquaculture 2) level of awareness towards waste water problem; and 3) to find out measures to prevent waste water problem owing to aquaculture. The study focused on the certain area at Nong Teen Kok Sub-district, Ban Pho District, Chachoengsao Province, applying mixed study methods. Based on qualitative method, in-depth interviews were made from community leaders and farmer; meanwhile, the quantitative method was made via a questionnaire being randomly delivered to 277 farmers. The entire data was the processed and analyzed. The results showed that: 1) The majority of aquaculture in the area was shrimp farming, having the average pond 4 pounds per one household, consuming the water from public canal. The conditions of water diversified from clear dark green color without bad smell, turbid green color with bad smell, clear color without bad smell, turbid color without bad smell, and turbid color with bad smell. 2) The awareness of farmers overall was at the highest level (=4.52 and SD = 0.488). 3) The measures to prevent the waste water problem of farmers being recommended were that: the meeting for making mutual understanding should be done regarding the problem on waste water continuously lease to the natural water resource; the setting of activities regarding farmer’s participation campaign for water retreatment before leasing, the supply of water turbine; the contest on friendly environment village in order to be the model to others and to be moral supports to notified farmers.
