Political Participation of the Older People in Bangkok, B.E. 2014-2022

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the level of political participation of older people in Bangkok, B.E.  2014-2022, 2) to compare the personal factors of political participation of older people in Bangkok, B.E. 2014-2022, 3) to synthesize the level of political participation of the elderly in Bangkok and the role of older people in political participation; elderly This research was a mixed study. It consists of quantitative research. A questionnaire was used to collect a sample of 400 older people in Bangkok and qualitative research. They used in-depth interviews with ten older people who play an essential role in the community. Statistics used for analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, T-test, and F-test.

The results of the research revealed that 1) the level of political participation of older people in Bangkok 2014-2022 was at a high level in all aspects; 2) comparing personal factors with political participation of older people in Bangkok 2014-2022 found that different personal factors such as age, status, religious beliefs, and education were generally not different when comparing political participation. As for the factors of occupation, income, and membership of various groups, the overall picture when comparing political participation was different, with statistical significance at the .05 level. 3) The political participation of older people in Bangkok and the role of the elderly in political participation showed that the political participation of older people in Bangkok Overall was at a high level in all aspects. 4) It is a form of the cycle when the elderly follows up on political information resulting in discussions and opinions. There are criticisms of commenting on online media and bringing knowledge that they have politics to the community to lead to voting. When the government does not meet the needs of the people, it leads to Political rallies and returning to monitoring political information until it becomes a cyclical model of understanding the political participation older people in Bangkok.
