Abstract

Rail freight transportation between Lat Krabang ICD and Laem Chabang Port is an important route connecting container transportation with the country’s major port. Service provision on this route requires consideration of responses to users’ needs, transportation process management, service quality, and the operational capability of the system. This research aimed to study the levels of marketing mix, transportation management, service quality, and commercial rail transport efficiency on the route from Lat Krabang ICD to Laem Chabang Port. The research employed a quantitative survey design. The sample consisted of 440 users of commercial rail transport services. The research instrument was a five-point rating scale questionnaire. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The results showed that: 1) the overall marketing mix was at a high level (X̄ = 4.12, S.D. = 0.62), with marketing promotion having the highest mean; 2) the overall transportation management was at a high level (X̄ = 4.04, S.D. = 0.62), with control having the highest mean; 3) the overall service quality was at a high level (X̄ = 3.95, S.D. = 0.66), with reliability and trust having the highest mean; and 4) the overall commercial rail transport efficiency was at a high level (X̄ = 3.80, S.D. = 0.59), with the quality aspect having the highest mean, while the quantity and time aspects had lower mean scores than the other aspects. The findings of this study reflect that the development of commercial rail transport should place emphasis on coordination, personnel development, fairness in service provision, increasing capacity to accommodate freight volume, and reducing time constraints in order to support service efficiency on this route.
