The Influence of Working Capital Management on Profitability and Firm Value of Companies Listed on the Market for Alternative Investment (MAI)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to 1) examine the effect of working capital management on profitability, and 2) investigate the effect of working capital management on firm value of companies listed on the Market for Alternative Investment (MAI). This research employed a quantitative approach using secondary data obtained from companies listed on the Market for Alternative Investment (MAI). The sample consisted of 101 companies, yielding a total of 303 observations during the period from 2022 to 2024, selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis, with the statistical significance level set at .05. The empirical findings revealed that the accounts receivable collection period and accounts payable period were the critical factors concurrently influencing both profitability and firm value (Tobin’s Q). Regarding profitability, the inventory holding period and accounts payable period exerted a positive effect on the gross profit margin, whereas the accounts receivable collection period had a negative effect. For the net profit margin, only the accounts payable period exhibited a statistically significant positive effect. However, working capital management did not significantly affect the return on assets (ROA) or return on equity (ROE). Regarding firm value, the accounts receivable collection period had a negative effect, while the accounts payable period had a statistically significant positive effect on Tobin’s Q. These results offer important managerial implications, suggesting that SMEs listed on the MAI should prioritize cash velocity over quantitative liquidity ratios. Financial managers should strategically shorten the accounts receivable collection cycle and extend the accounts payable period to optimize cash flow availability and maximize long-term firm value.
