Abstract

This study aimed to 1) examine the types and forms of innovation applied to business operations in Thailand’s cold storage industry, 2) analyze the impacts and benefits of innovation adoption in Thailand’s cold storage industry, and 3) propose guidelines for promoting innovation adoption in the industry. A qualitative research approach was employed using documentary research and content analysis. Academic publications, research studies, reports, and documents from relevant organizations were collected. The data were analyzed by defining units of analysis, categorizing and comparing the information, and synthesizing the findings in accordance with the research objectives. The findings revealed that 1) innovations related to the cold storage industry could be classified into five categories: refrigeration system innovation, information and digital systems, cold chain management, green energy, and automation and robotics. These innovations showed an increasing tendency toward the integration of technology, machinery, and data; 2) innovation adoption contributed to operational efficiency and cost management, product and service quality, the reduction of losses and risks, as well as competitiveness and supply chain connectivity. However, the extent of these outcomes depended on each enterprise’s readiness in terms of investment, personnel, existing systems, and its capacity to utilize data; and 3) the promotion of innovation adoption should be pursued at three interconnected levels: policy, academic and human resource development, and enterprise. Particular emphasis should be placed on financial support, the development of infrastructure and data standards, workforce skill development, and the selection of innovations appropriate to the problems and readiness of each enterprise.
