ข้อสังเกตจากการอ่านนิราศเมืองแกลงอีกครั้ง (Observations Derived from a Re-reading of Nirat Mueang Klaeng)

บทคัดย่อ

การอ่านนิราศเมืองแกลงใหม่อีกครั้งอย่างพินิจพิจารณา ทำให้พบข้อสังเกตที่น่าสนใจหลายประการ ได้แก่ สาเหตุที่สุนทรภู่เดินทางไปเมืองแกลง ความสัมพันธ์ลึกซึ้งของสุนทรภู่กับแม่จันตั้งแต่ก่อนต้องพระราชอาญา ลักษณะกลอนในงานช่วงแรกๆของสุนทรภู่ซึ่งนิยมสัมผัสพยัญชนะหลายคำที่อยู่ชิดกัน ใช้คำคู่ซึ่งสลับเสียงเบา-หนัก-เบา-หนักในคำสี่พยางค์ ใช้คำและชุดคำที่สร้างขึ้น เล่าเส้นทางและวิถีชีวิตของคนชุมชนที่พบเห็นอย่างให้อารมณ์และภาพโดยใช้ภาษากระชับ ภาษาจินตภาพและภาพพจน์ ทั้งใช้ภาษาเขมรและภาษาของคนสมัยนั้น ทำให้ผู้อ่านได้ความรู้นานัปการ นอกเหนือจากความเพลิดเพลินที่ได้จากการอ่านนิราศเรื่องนี้ รวมทั้งได้ความไพเราะที่เกิดจากกลวิธีทางวรรณศิลป์ทั้งในระดับเสียง ระดับคำ และระดับความ

A thorough and close reading of Sunthon Phu’s Nirat Mueang Klaeng yielded some interesting observations namely the reason for the bard’s journey to his father’s home in Mueang Klaeng district resulting from his intimate relationship with Mae Chan prior to him being subjected to royal censure and punishment.  One also notes the poetic features evident in Sunthon Phu’s early forms of poetry which was more inclined towards the use of consonant alliteration for words appearing next to each other.  One finds the use of special kind of words alternating in the scheme of soft-heavy-soft-heavy in a four-syllable word. There is also the use of words and sets of words constructed to narrate journey routes and the ways of life of people in their communities, imagery and metaphorical discourse as well as the use of Khmer and other languages spoken by people at the time.  The reader is thus endowed with greater knowledge aside from the sheer enjoyment derived from reading this poetic work and the appreciation gained from its melodious sounds presented through poetic forms at the levels of sound, words and sense.
