โคลงกระทู้ : วรรณศิลป์แห่งปัญญา (Klong Kratu : the Poetry of the Mind)

บทคัดย่อ

บทความนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ที่จะศึกษาโคลงกระทู้ในวรรณคดีไทย ผลการศึกษาพบว่า การแต่งโคลงกระทู้มีมาตั้งแต่สมัยอยุธยาตอนกลางซึ่งกวีใช้โคลงกระทู้เพื่อแสดงฝีมือและความคิดของกวีในการแต่งโคลงขยายความจากคำกระทู้ซึ่งอาจมีความหมายหรือไม่มีความหมายก็ได้ นับเป็นการเล่นสนุกทางวรรณศิลป์อย่างหนึ่งในการแต่งโคลง ต่อมาในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ กวีแต่งโคลงกระทู้อย่างมีจุดประสงค์ชัดเจนที่เห็นได้ว่าพัฒนาเพิ่มเติมจากสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยา คือนอกจากจะใช้โคลงกระทู้ในวรรณคดีเพื่อปิดหรือสรุปเรื่อง และแจ้งนามผู้แต่งดังที่ปรากฏในวรรณคดีสมัยอยุธยาแล้ว ยังนิยมแต่งโคลงกระทู้ที่มีเนื้อหาทั่วไปและโคลงกระทู้ที่มีเนื้อหาเป็นวรรณคดีคำสอน  นอกจากนี้ยังพบว่า ในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์มีการใช้คำกระทู้ที่เป็นคำประพันธ์อีกชนิดหนึ่งซึ่งแสดงให้เห็นความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างคำกระทู้ที่ใช้ในโคลงกับคำประพันธ์ชนิดอื่น อีกทั้งมีการนำคำกระทู้จากสำนวนสุภาษิตของไทยมาแต่งโคลงขยายความ  กล่าวได้ว่า โคลงกระทู้เป็นกลวิธีทางวรรณศิลป์อย่างหนึ่งในการแต่งโคลงที่แสดงให้เห็นปัญญาและความสามารถของกวีซึ่งยังคงได้รับความนิยมเรื่อยมาตั้งแต่อดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน

This article aims to study “Klong Kratu” in Thai literature.  The study finds that the composition of this type of poetry dates back to the mid-Ayutthaya period where poets would render their compositions to demonstrate their skills as well as their intellect by writing a poem that served as an elaboration of a question that may or may not contain any meaning since its primary purpose was to present a play on language in jest.  Later on in the Rattanakosin era one notes a clearer objective in the composition- a development from the same type of poetry from what it was in the Ayutthaya era.  Aside from the fact that poets now used klong kratu to conclude a story or to summarize the main points, specifying the name of the poet as had been done in the Ayutthaya period it also became popular for such poems to be written on various subjects in general as well as those that appeared in the form of didactic literature.  It is also found that in the Rattanakosin era there is the use of the main question along with other poetic forms along with the application of various Thai proverbs to a form of poetic elaboration.  One could say that Klong kratu is a mastery of Thai poetic composition attesting to the skill and intellect of the poet that has enjoyed tremendous popularity from the past up until the present.
