Developing a conceptual framework for designing patterns from the artistic of Songfhla’s cultural identity on local dessert wrapping paper

Abstract

     The objectives of this research are 1) to study the art and cultural forms of Songkhla Province, and 2) to study information on the composition of art to use the information to develop a conceptual framework derived from artistic and cultural identity on local dessert wrapping papers. It is a qualitative research focusing on the study of art and culture patterns, and traditions, including finding the form of artistic elements of the patterns to get a conceptual framework from the identity of developing patterns that are related to the arts, culture, and traditions of Songkhla Province. Data were collected from books and the internet for use in questionnaires and interviews with experts in the arts and culture of Songkhla Province and experts in the artistic elements of patterns. The results of the research found that 1) Study of cultural patterns, local desserts are related to arts and culture, traditions as follows: Home economics includes making puffed desserts, ear pierced desserts, donkey desserts for use in the traditions of grandparents in the area and the tradition of marrying nymphs (Teang Ngan kap Nang Mai) which is connected to the field of humanities, including traditional rituals, water bathing, and Manora dancing. It is connected with the art branch, including Manora costumes, and Bai Sri instruments, and with the craftsmanship branch, including making jewelry, rings, and beads. As for the sports and recreation branch, there is no direct connection with tradition. 2) Composition of art that is suitable for developing a conceptual framework derived from identity includes geometric shapes, natural shapes, and hand drawn-shapes. Selecting artistic elements for repeating structures, including the sliding structure, triangular grid structure, hexagonal grid structure, as well as the use of colors, including close and opposite colors. The conceptual framework derived from this identity can create concrete works that connect local desserts with the artistic and cultural identity of Songkhla Province. It is the preservation of culture. and tradition for continued longevity.
