Year of the zodiac: Rabbit, Ox and Tiger pattern with Lipao pattern
Main Article Content
Abstract
“Lipao Handicraft” is a famous handcrafts of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, creating careers and income for the local community. Developing patterns to meet the consumer's popularity is therefore very important. The researchers used three types of animals, which are Rabbits (Rabbits), Cows (Ox), and Tigers (Kal), which are part of the Nakhon Si Thammarat provincial seal, in patterns to increase selection for manufacturers and consumers.
The objective of this research was to design 3 zodiac patterns for basketry in Lipao area. Using the program GSP (The Geometer's Sketchpad) as a tool to draw new patterns from mathematical equations. These prototypes can be applied or continued to develop for appropriate uses in the future. In addition, the pattern has been passed to the basketry practitioners in Lipao area in all 5 local communities in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, namely Na Khian Subdistrict, Pho Sadet Subdistrict, Tha Ruea Subdistrict, Na Sai Subdistrict, and Nai Mueang Subdistrict to make new patterns for Lipao Handicraft products in the future.
The research results showed that three new pattern for Lipao Handicraft products were presented: the year of the rabbit (rabbit), the year of ox (cow) and the year of the Tiger (tiger). The characteristic (scaling) of the model from GSP Program allows the easier weaving of the Lipao area than the usual carved pattern. The survey showed the satisfaction with the pattern development of wicker products in Liphao areaof the highest level, with the mean of 4.79 and the standard deviation of 0.48.
