The Development of Instructional Model for English Language Reading Comprehension for Undergraduate Students of Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University Based on ACTIVE Reading and Cooperative Learning Techniques

Abstract

     This research entitled “The Development of Instructional Model for English Language Reading Comprehension for Undergraduate Students of Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University Based on ACTIVE Reading and Cooperative Learning Techniques”.The purposes of the research were: 1) to develop instructional model for English language reading comprehension that based on ACTIVE reading  and cooperative learning techniques, 2) to study the results of using the instructional model for English language reading comprehension that based on ACTIVE Reading and cooperative learning techniques from; 2.1) comparing the students’ achievement in learning of the experimental group that taught by instructional model for English language reading comprehension that based on ACTIVE Reading and cooperative learning techniques with the achievement of the control group that taught by conventional teaching model. 2.2) the attitudes of the experimental group towards Instructional Model for English Language Reading Comprehension Based on ACTIVE Reading and Cooperative Learning Techniques. The samples of the study were 64 of the third year students in English program. The students were divided into one experimental group and one control group. The instruments were the  Instructional Model for English Language Reading Comprehension Based on ACTIVE Reading and Cooperative Learning Techniques, Conventional teaching model,  lesson plans, questionnaire, pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed by using mean, standard deviation, t-test and content analysis.  


          The results of the study were: 1.The instructional model by applying ACTIVE reading and cooperative learning techniques for English language reading comprehension assessed by the  experts found that the constructed model had excellent quality ( gif.latex?\bar{x} = 4.89, SD = 0.213). 2.The student achievement of the experimental group that taught by instructional model for English language reading comprehension based on ACTIVE Reading  and cooperative learning techniques and the achievement of the control group had statistic significant difference, it was set at 0.01. The average score of the experimental group was also higher than the average score of the control group.  3.The students of experimental group appeared themselves with agreeable attitudes ( gif.latex?\bar{x} = 4.31, SD = 0.59) towards Instructional model for English language reading comprehension based on ACTIVE reading and cooperative learning techniques.
