The Effects Of Job Satisfaction And Its Antecedents On Job Engagement Of Seafarers In Thailand

Abstract

     This research aims to study the influence of workload on work stress, job satisfaction, and job engagement of seafarers in Thailand. The research is mixed methods. This quantitative research was based on a sample group of 514 seafarers in Thailand. The research tools were a questionnaire, specific sampling, analysis using percentages, means, standard deviations, and structural equation modeling analysis, Path Analysis. For the qualitative research, in-depth interviews on job satisfaction and job engagement were used with 9 seafarers, mechanics, and executives in shipping companies. The results of research found that 1) workload has a positive influence on work stress, workload has a positive influence on work engagement and workload has a negative influence on job satisfaction. 2) Work stress has a positive influence on job satisfaction and work stress has a positive influence on job engagement. 3) Job satisfaction has a positive influence on job engagement.
