The Development of English Language Speaking Skill and Attitudes of Secondary 1 students at Ongkarnsuanyang 1 School towards learning English by Using Task - based Learning

Abstract
The purposes of this research were to: 1) compare the speaking abilities of secondary 1 students before and after using task - based learning, 2) compare the speaking abilities of seventh grade students after using task - based learning with 70% criterion, 3) investigate the speaking skills progression through task-based learning 4) study the students’ attitude toward English subject. The samples for this research consisted of 15 secondary 1 students from Ongkarnsuanyang 1 school in the Education Network Center 10, Chang Klang District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, that selected through simple random sampling. The research instruments used in this study were lesson plans with task-based learning, the English-speaking skill multiple choice test, the oral test of English-speaking skill, and the students’ attitude toward the English subject measurement by using a questionnaire. The data of this research were analyzed by 1) descriptive statistics, 2) t-test one sample, and 3) Nonparametric Statistics, Wilcoxon signed-ranks test.
The results of the study were: 1) The students’ speaking skill after using task-based learning was significantly higher than before using task–based learning at the .05 level. 2) The students’ speaking skill after using task-based learning was higher than 70 percent of the defined criteria. 3) The students’ attitude toward the English subject was at a high level.
