The Concept of Teaching and Learning English by Integrating Reading Skills and Writing Skills to Promote Critical Thinking Skills
Main Article Content
Abstract
In the 21st century, the teaching and learning of English reading and writing should be an integrated teaching and learning management. English reading and writing skills should not be taught separately. Instead, integration of English reading and writing skills should be a learning management that enhances students to learn more how to think critically and acknowledge the relationship between the studied subjects and the real world. Since teaching reading and writing English separately will result in a greater focus on skill-based language activities. This means that English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners will not use their knowledge of any one area to improve their general literacy learning. Integrating the teaching of English reading and writing skills indicates that there was a significant correlation between English reading and writing abilities and promotes critical thinking. Consequently, English reading and writing skills become the two main skills for effective teaching that enhances students’ ability of grasping the main ideas by using critical thinking. This academic article aims to collate the concepts of teaching and learning English by integrating reading and writing skills to advance critical thinking skills.
