Abstract

This research aims to study the rice cultivation development in the Chaloem Phra Kiat district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. It also seeks to explore the wisdom, beliefs, ceremonies, traditions, and architecture related to rice culture through qualitative field research. Four ways to collect data include surveying using maps, observation, in-depth interviews, and a draft questionnaire for group discussions. The four key informant groups were thirty community context informants in terms of geography, thirty key informants include community members, thirty rice farming development informants, twenty-nine people who provided relevant individual knowledge about wisdom, and ten people who provided information about beliefs, ceremonies, traditions and architecture. The research findings reveal three phases of rice cultivation development in the Chaloem Phra Kiat district: natural farming, technological integration, commercial production, and seeking new alternatives in response to global trends. The cultural aspects related to rice have undergone continuous changes, adapting to evolving lifestyles influenced by external societal factors.
