Abstract
The research titled “Guidelines for Developing Rail Tourism Potential in the Khao Luang Locality, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province” aims to examine the context and assess the potential of rail tourism in the Khao Luang locality. This study employs a mixed-methods research design. The sample consisted of two groups. The first group included local residents living within a 10-kilometer radius on both sides of the railway lines, covering communities along the transportation routes near Than Pho, Chawang, Khlong Chan Di, Lak Chang, Pho Than Khlai Wajasit, Na Bon, Khlong Chang, and Thung Song railway stations. A total of 560 respondents were selected using purposive and quota sampling, with 80 participants representing each community. The questionnaire was pilot-tested with 30 individuals. Data were analyzed using mean and standard deviation, and the results were interpreted accordingly. The second group consisted of 70 key informants, including local administrative officers, community leaders, community representatives, personnel from the Tourism and Sports Office, tourism associations, occupational groups, and community enterprises. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and focus group discussions, and analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that the overall perception of the sample group toward the potential of rail tourism in the Khao Luang locality was at a moderate level. The quantitative results were consistent with qualitative findings from in-depth interviews, which revealed that the community possesses strong potential for rail tourism development and can attract visitors. The study area covers Chawang, Chang Klang, Na Bon, and Thung Song districts. The area is distinguished by its natural tourism resources, historical attractions (such as archaeological sites and artifacts), and cultural resources, including arts, traditions, and local activities. In addition, tourism facilities and public utilities play a crucial role in enhancing tourists’ convenience and satisfaction. Positive visitor experiences can encourage repeat visits and contribute to strengthening the tourism potential of the community.
