Strategies for Phu-Tai Community - Based Tourism Network Governance in Northeastern, Thailand

Abstract

This article aims to analyze strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and treats, as well as develop strategies for Phu-Tai community-based tourism network governance in Northeastern, Thailand. This study employs a qualitative research approach by collecting; semi-structural interview, participatory and non-participatory observations, and focus groups with the participants who were purposively selected form 5 best practical cases; 1) Baan Kok kong, Kalasin, 2) Baan Phu, Mukdahan, 3) Baan Kud khae don, Yasothon, 4) Baan Na Bua, Nakhon Phanom, and 5) Baan Nonhom, Sakon Nakhon. Then, the data were brought together to analyze between key informants from each case by a focus group to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and treats. Content analysis was conducted to analyze the data while reliability was performed through triangulation. The results found that the potentials of Phu-Tai community-based tourism network governance in the Northeastern can be synthesis and divide. According to the result of the analysis strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and treats of 5 cases. Thus, able to develop three strategies for Phu-Tai community-based tourism network governance in the Northeastern; 1. Strategy for promoting potentials and strengths of community-based tourism group governance consists with 37 guidelines, 2. Strategy for promoting governance networking between the community-based tourism group and the other partners for setting up the potentials and strengths of community-based tourism consists with 20 guidelines, and 3. Strategy for developing roles of local administrative organization for promoting the community-based tourism consists with 20 guidelines.
